If you are searching the Internet for contractors and service suppliers you are most likely using Google without giving it another thought.

Google is not the only search engine and it is certainly not always the most accurate.

Some companies pay a lot of money to appear at the top of a Google search and Google certainly encourages companies to pay to show up well.

On mobile phones Google designs the display so that only the companies that pay the most show on the screen clearly.

The problem is this does not mean the company is any good. Google relies on you being lazy and not being discerning. One other very accurate search engine is DuckDuck Go. DuckDuckGo.com. Yes, it is a silly name but it produces honest, unbiased results based on the actual content of a website — not on how much the company bribed the search engine.

So, if you are going to spend serious money having your roof fixed, or puchasing anything else, do not rely entirely on Google. All devices: computers and phones, allow you to set your own search provider and change it as often as you like. Even if you are using Google you can call up DuckDuckGo by searching, and then search within it.

Don't allow big companies like Google to censor how you look for things on the Internet.
